Information Superiority

Our warfighters must see first, strike first, and come home safely. To do that, they need the best possible information, from myriad sources, fused into a common picture of the battlefield.

Lockheed Martin is the partner of choice for Joint and coalition forces because of our in-depth understanding of concepts of operation, information architectures, and advanced security technologies. The goal: To collect, process and deliver information to warfighters in real-time.

The seriousness - and in some cases the urgency - of the work we perform for the nation's defense is felt keenly by the Lockheed Martin team. Our outstanding performance record reflects that we deliver as promised the first time, virtually every time.

The terrorist attacks of September 11 occurred while Lockheed Martin was in the midst of updating and integrating some 40 legacy computer systems at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters. Our engineers and scientists immediately began working to integrate the tracking capabilities of NORAD, which monitors the air space beyond our borders, and the Federal Aviation Administration, which monitors U.S. airspace. It is another example of leadership earned by responding with vision and effectiveness in developing a solution to a highly critical national challenge.

Recognizing the importance of information superiority for today's defense and homeland security customers, Lockheed Martin also has earned leadership in:

Lockheed Martin C4ISR systems connect decision-makers at the Pentagon and command centers worldwide with deployed warfighters in the field. Lockheed Martin-developed systems enable the military to coordinate thousands of air combat sorties a day, command and control hundreds of thousands of ground troops theater-wide, and collect and analyze intelligence data from sensors at sea, on the ground, in the air and in space.

Looking toward the future, Lockheed Martin is partnering with the Department of Defense and international customers to deliver unsurpassed knowledge of the battlefield; exponentially faster decision-making; and synchronized maneuvers coordinated down to the individual soldier.

At Lockheed Martin, we never forget who we're working for.

Command and Control

Our command and control (C2) systems enable military officials to plan and execute coordinated air, ground and naval campaigns within an operational theater or around the globe. Using real-time information to synchronize battle power and transform military units into a seamless joint fighting force, our C2 solutions allow warfighters to share the same picture of the battlespace at the same time.

Information Security

When you handle some of the nation's most sensitive information, security is always a top priority. At Lockheed Martin, we view information security as much more than just a software feature - we build system architectures that focus on security from the start, ensuring that security systems, processes and methodologies are built in, not bolted on.

With a defense-in-depth strategy that focuses on multi-layered security, we build several lines of defense around our customers' most important data, minimizing vulnerabilities with the latest security technology and processes.

Our information security capabilities span secure communications, computer network defense, intrusion detection and prevention, and the full array of information operations.

Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance

From the depths of the oceans to the far reaches of space, we serve the Department of Defense and the intelligence community with leading-edge intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems for maritime, terrestrial, airborne, and space missions.

Lockheed Martin is a leader in satellite imagery and information systems, air surveillance, radar, geospatial imagery, mission management, and ground system operations. Our focus is on providing joint and multi-agency organizations with valuable, effective ISR data for a diverse set of missions ranging from precision targeting to geographic mapping.

Net-Centric Warfare

Lockheed Martin is at the forefront of net-centric operations, developing a family of integrated systems that will deliver interoperable, seamless warfighting capability to the warriors of the 21st century. Net-centric operations is the way the military will organize and fight in the information age, linking various systems and sensors together to exponentially increase the military benefit of those systems that otherwise operate independently.

The foundation for Lockheed Martin's joint net-centric operations systems is a human-centered design approach that:

  • Focuses on the user's role in the system
  • Reduces training and crewing costs through extensive analysis of human tasks and automation

To support changing mission priorities and evolving technologies, Lockheed Martin's net-centric solutions are built on an open system, component-based architecture that is scalable and:

  • Reduces maintenance costs
  • Eliminates redundant processing
  • Frees-up bandwidth

Linking all information assets in the battlespace - the joint command headquarters, a forward based ground force, an Expeditionary Strike Group, an airborne strike package - is the key to transforming information superiority into combat power.

This is an example of Lockheed Martin's ability to understand rapidly-changing requirements and to respond with vision and effectiveness.
