F-35 Norway participates in the F-35 program as a Level 3 partner in the System Development and Demonstration phase with a view to enabling its industry to compete for industrial opportunities. In November 2008, the Norwegian Government chose the F-35 as the replacement aircraft for the F-16. Current plans call for the delivery of 48 aircraft.
F-16 Seventy-four F-16 aircraft have been delivered to Norway starting from first delivery in January 1979. The Norwegian Air Force ordered Mid-Life Update kits in 1996 to install on the F-16 fleet at its own depot. Lockheed Martin Pantera advanced targeting pods were added in 2004 to enhance F-16 combat capabilities. Norway also flies the C-130H transport aircraft and P-3 maritime patrol aircraft. In 2007, Norway ordered 4 new C-130Js. The first was delivered in November 2008 significantly enhancing Norway’s airlift capability. Partners Industrial co-production partners include Nordisk Aluminum for F-16 fuel tanks and Kongsberg for storage management systems and head-up displays. NERA provided conventional remote interface units and missile remote interface units for the F-16.
F-100 Frigates The F-100 Frigate program is a major Norwegian navy modernization effort. The five Aegis-equipped frigates are capable of addressing threats from the air, the surface of the sea and undersea. Partners Partners include Spanish shipbuilder Navantia, with Lockheed Martin as Aegis provider and prime system integrator. Included within this program is a contract for Kongsberg to provide the antisubmarine warfare system to Lockheed Martin for these and other follow-on, similar frigates.
