Lockheed Martin Hosts Small Business And University Innovation Technology Day

SYRACUSE, NY, July 9th, 2008 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] hosted 35 small technology businesses and 12 of New York state’s advanced technology development centers for a “Small Business and University Innovation Technology Day” today.

“The purpose of this event is to identify small companies and universities with capabilities that are aligned with our technology pursuits,” said Carl Bannar, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin’s business in Syracuse.  “As a result, we hope to develop partnerships that will continue to enhance the value of the solutions we provide our customers in the future.”

The day-long industry event, co-sponsored by New York State’s Foundation for Science Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) and Syracuse University ’s Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE) provided the participating businesses the opportunity to showcase their innovations and capabilities and discuss possible collaboration opportunities.

Besides the small businesses, representatives from 12 of New York state’s 15 Centers for Advanced Technology (CATs) held demonstrations at the event.  Located at some of the state’s most prestigious educational institutions, CATs strongly support university-industry collaborative research efforts to transfer relevant technologies to commercial applications.  Five of the state’s 10 Regional Technology Development Centers – which work to cultivate the growth of high-tech industry and help smaller manufacturers modernize – also were represented.

“By fostering an environment that encourages technological progress through collaborations among our universities and companies, Lockheed Martin’s leadership is providing a business model to strengthen and modernize the state’s innovation economy,” said Edward Reinfurt, Executive Director of the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation.
