Remote Minehunting System Additional Information

Remote Minehunting System (RMS)

AN/WLD 1(V) Remote Minehunting System (RMS) will allow combatants to react swiftly and independently to mine threats without impacting other warfare missions. Launched and controlled remotely from forward-deployed ships, RMS will give Carrier and Expeditionary Strike Groups an organic, real-time, over-the-horizon mine reconnaissance capability, significantly enhancing ship and crew safety. The unmanned, semi-submersible RMV tows a Variable Depth Sensor to detect, localize, classify and identify moored and bottom mines. Other key elements of the system include line-of-sight and over-the-horizon real-time data links, a shipboard launch and recovery subsystem, and a software segment, which integrates AN/WLD-1(V)1 into the ship's AN/SQQ-89(V)15 Undersea Warfare Combat System.

RMMV – Remote Multi-Mission Vehicle

The Remote Multi-Mission Vehicle (RMMV) is entering the Navy inventory as part of the AN/WLD-1 Remote Minehunting System (RMS). RMS is currently installed onboard USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), and systems will transition to Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) as part of the Mine Warfare and ASW Mission Packages. The RMMV is the US Navy Snorkeler-class Unmanned Surface Vehicle. It is a robust, unmanned semi-submersible vehicle system that can be adapted to a broad spectrum of new applications and missions. The RMMV provides all-weather, low observable operations, high endurance, interchangeable mission systems with electronics and real-time data transfer capability beyond line-of-sight. Designed for deployment from surface combatants, as well as shore-based or ships of opportunity, the RMMV can provide a significant off-board capability for Combatant Commanders.
