Sniper
The combat-proven Sniper® is the U.S. Air Force's advanced targeting pod (ATP) of record. Its outstanding performance results from a superior optical bed design combined with advanced image processing algorithms, exceptional stability and pointing accuracy.
A precision targeting system in a single, lightweight, affordable pod, Sniper ATP is designed for current and future aircraft. The pod's supersonic, low-observable design substantially reduces drag and weight. Sniper pods are currently flying on the USAF's F-15E, F-16, A-10, and B-1, in addition to international F-18 and Harrier aircraft. It is also being integrated on the B-52 aircraft. Sniper ATP's common software/hardware interface allows the USAF to "plug and play" Sniper across platforms for a single hardware/software configuration across the fleet.
Incorporating a high-resolution, advanced mid-wave FLIR; a dual-mode laser; and a CCD-TV, along with a laser spot tracker and a laser marker, the Sniper ATP vastly improves ranges for target detection/identification. The advanced image processing algorithms, combined with rock-steady stabilization techniques, outperform the best systems in service today. Fully compatible with the latest standoff and J-series weaponry, the pod provides automatic tracking and laser designation of tactical size targets via real-time imagery presented on cockpit displays.
