The Dedicated Men & Women of Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems

Delivering Unsurpassed Reliability

Lockheed Martin's A2100 satellite series received a Frost & Sullivan industry award for reliability for the second consecutive year. In a recent comprehensive analysis of spacecraft reliability, Frost & Sullivan determined that the in-orbit performance of the A2100 ranked first among all major manufacturers as measured by the fewest insurance claims. While many factors contribute to the lifetime success and profitability of our customers’ communications satellites, nothing is more critical to their business than overall spacecraft reliability.

Setting the industry’s benchmark in reliability begins with a conservative and robust design and engineering approach measured against the highest possible standards. This design and engineering approach was acknowledged by Frost & Sullivan as a key element of Lockheed Martin’s ability to set the standard in satellite reliability.

Mission Success: Quality Assurance In Action

WeatherOur Mission Success organization is integrated into every aspect of Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems’ business. To our customers, Mission Success assures a quality product delivered on time with no surprises. To our employees, suppliers and subcontractors, it represents business ethics in action, while engaging team members to "get it right the first time."

By having a Mission Success Manager at the executive level within our organization, the message is clear that the initiative is critical to our success and is strongly supported throughout Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems.

Our Mission Success review board, independent of the everyday project team, evaluates work on an ongoing basis and double checks for quality and compliance before customer reviews. This extra precaution ensures that all products and services meet expected levels of quality prior to milestones.

Providing an independent review of proposals, designs, pre-shipments and launch readiness, manufacturing/assembly as well as other customer needs, Mission Success is a truly integrated function that helps to assure quality products before they reach our customers.

The formalized process includes several standard reviews, such as a Mission Success Independent Readiness Review (IRR) approximately one month prior to the spacecraft Pre-Shipment Review, and a Mission Success President’s Review prior to mating to the launch vehicle.

Reliability, innovation, flexibility and superior customer support are hallmarks that have distinguished Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems for almost a half century.
