Education

As an industry leader in global security and aerospace, Lockheed Martin is working in partnership with industry,
government and academia to excite young people about the possibilities offered by careers in engineering and manufacturing.
The company’s continued success – and the UK’s engineering excellence – depends on a constant supply of highly
trained, highly capable technical talent. For this reason, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
activities are a major focus of its education outreach.
To help address these challenges and strengthen the workforce pipeline, Lockheed Martin provides funding for STEM
outreach activities which includes events and campaigns focusing on student achievement, teacher development and
gender and ethnic diversity.
STEM activities include pre-employment education activities to raise awareness of engineering, apprenticeship and
graduate career programmes to attract and retain the workforce of tomorrow and academic partnerships which give
students an opportunity to work with Lockheed Martin engineers on innovative, practical projects.
Through an ‘engineering in the classroom’ initiative Lockheed Martin employees interact with the next generation of
engineers and technologists by serving as local school advisors, mentors and career role models for students in
communities where they live and work.
