Lockheed Martin UK INSYS Celebrates 50 Years Supporting The United Kingdom's Armed Forces

Ampthill, UK, November 5, 2007

Lockheed Martin UK INSYS celebrated its 50th Anniversary in the defence industry on Friday 2 November. The company, which began life as Hunting Engineering in 1957 and was later Insys Ltd., was acquired by the Lockheed Martin Corporation in October 2005.

To mark the milestone, the facility’s 600 employees took part in an appreciation event themed “50 Years Supporting Our Armed Forces.” Staff were given a commemorative booklet tracing the company’s heritage and treated to a catered lunch and a range of activities, including a Red Arrow Flight Simulator.

“We wanted to show our employees how much we appreciate their role in the company’s success over the past 50 years and remind them of the vital role they will play in our future growth,” said Stephen Ball, Managing Director of Lockheed Martin UK INSYS.

Since becoming part of the Lockheed Martin family, Lockheed Martin UK INSYS has hired over 100 new staff and seen the business grow at least 20% in orders this year. Recently they opened a £2 million high-tech manufacturing centre and have outlined a strategic regeneration programme for the entire facility, both of which represent significant investment in the site’s future

“This company’s growth not only results in the creation and retention of high wage jobs and a considerable capital investment, but also makes a statement that Ampthill’s high tech future is extremely bright,” said Ball.
