Supporting Military Veterans
For all those who cherish freedom, the bravery of the men and women in uniform is never forgotten. Lockheed Martin and its people proudly support military veterans.
One particularly novel effort supported by Lockheed Martin is the Wounded Warrior Project, which consists of a number of creative programs designed to enhance the wounded soldier’s transition into civilian life. These programs include outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, archery, boating and camping; disabled sports programs for severely wounded service members; and the provision of backpacks with essential care and comfort items for soldiers arriving at military trauma centers.
Lockheed Martin also supports the Vail Veterans Ski Program, an innovative initiative that provides recent U.S. amputee veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts with an opportunity to participate in outdoor activities such as kayaking and whitewater rafting in the summer and skiing in the winter.
On the tamer side — and back indoors — Lockheed Martin funded a major upgrade to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) computer system so the system would be compatible with the newly upgraded system at the Department of Veteran Affairs. The upgrade ensures that when VFW members file for benefits, the forms they use are compatible with the Department of Veteran Affairs system.
The corporation provides support to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, which advocates on behalf of veterans and works with local organizations who provide direct support to fight homelessness.
Lockheed Martin in Palmdale, Calif., supports the National Veterans Foundation, which offers resources to veterans in need through a 24/7 toll-free hotline.
Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga., provides funding for the Georgia National Guard Strong Bonds Program, which brings soldiers and their spouses together in a retreat setting with the hopes of restoring their relationship after being separated for a year.
The Highest Honor
The Corporation supports the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation with a leadership and financial commitment. The Foundation perpetuates the Medal of Honor's legacy through outreach and collaborative efforts. The Foundation promotes values and the qualities of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism through increased awareness, education, behavior, and example. One outreach project Lockheed Martin supports is the placement of a book about the Medal of Honor recipients in every public school.
