SUBJECT:       Making Our Great Company Even Better

As we start the year, I am honored and privileged to begin serving as your CEO and President.  I’m very proud to be a member of the Lockheed Martin team, and to work together with you to build on our company’s 100-year history of providing security solutions and making lives better for people around the world.

My goal is to continue the tremendous progress made under the leadership of Bob Stevens, and to keep our company strong.  I’d like to thank Bob for his exceptional leadership and for his many contributions to our company and our country.  He now serves as the executive chairman of our board of directors and will continue to provide guidance and support to our company until he retires in early 2014.

Looking ahead, we will continue to focus on growing our business, even in the face of a challenging economy.  I believe we have the best portfolio in the industry because it is strongly aligned with our customers’ priorities.  We’ll stay the course on our strategy to grow our core business through innovation and performance, expand internationally with proven products and services, and explore and invest in adjacent markets aligned with our competencies.  Most importantly, we’ll maintain our strong commitment to the highest standards of ethical conduct in everything we do and every decision we make.

Together, we share a great responsibility because our customers depend on us to help them achieve their critical missions.  Global security challenges are increasing daily across a broad spectrum – from conflict, cyber security and energy to transportation, health care, personal safety and more.  The global economy remains fragile and our customers are counting on us to help them do more with less.  I am encouraged by the actions Congress and the White House took this week to delay implementation of sequestration for two months and I’m hopeful this is the first step towards the permanent elimination of these automatic across-the-board budget cuts.  In the weeks ahead, we’ll continue to work with our government leaders to find a more effective solution to our nation’s fiscal challenges.

In helping our customers meet their challenges, I am confident we can continue to deliver value to our shareholders, grow our business, and secure a bright future for our talented team.  At the heart of everything we do, and all of our success, is you.  In my 30 years at Lockheed Martin, I’ve seen how you make the extraordinary look simple.  I’m impressed by your talent and your unwavering commitment to solve our customers’ most difficult problems.  And I marvel at your innovative spirit, your commitment to perform with excellence, and your unwavering integrity.  Thank you for your dedication, hard work and contributions every day.
