SUBJECT: Joanne Maguire and Linda Gooden to retire; Rick Ambrose to lead Space Systems; Sondra Barbour to lead IS&GS
After distinguished careers and countless contributions to Lockheed Martin, Joanne Maguire, Executive Vice President (EVP), Space Systems, and Linda Gooden, EVP, Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) have informed me of their plans to retire. Effective April 1, Rick Ambrose, Space Systems Vice President (VP) and Deputy will assume responsibility for Space Systems. Sondra Barbour, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO), will assume responsibility for IS&GS.
I want to express my sincere appreciation to Joanne and Linda for their leadership, expertise and unwavering focus on meeting our customers’ missions.
Joanne’s accomplishments span three decades in the aerospace and defense industry. She joined Lockheed Martin in 2003 and assumed leadership of Space Systems in 2006. Her contributions to the business have been numerous. Under her leadership we’ve delivered several major national security space systems, notably the Space Based Infrared System, and expanded our role in space exploration with programs like Orion and Juno. She was the first woman to receive the International von Karman Wings Award, presented by the California Institute of Technology and in 2012 received the National Defense Industrial Association’s distinguished Peter B. Teets Award from its Space Division. In 2011, Joanne was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Linda’s retirement follows a distinguished 32-year career with Lockheed Martin. Under her leadership, IS&GS has remained the top provider of information technology services to the U.S. Government for the last 18 years, and expanded our government IT business into international markets. Linda was also instrumental in launching our new commercial cyber security business. She has been honored with numerous awards, including being inducted into the prestigious Career Communications Hall of Fame, named one of Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, and Black Enterprise magazine’s 2009 100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America. In 2010, Linda was appointed by U.S. President Barack Obama to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.
Rick is a seasoned executive with more than 33 years of industry experience in roles of increasing responsibility, and a proven track record of understanding and delivering on our customers’ expectations. Rick joined Lockheed Martin in 2000 and is currently VP and Deputy at Space Systems. Prior to his current assignment, he led the IS&GS-National business and held various leadership positions in Space Systems and our former Mission Systems and Sensors business that will prove valuable as he moves the Space business forward for our customers and employees. He has successfully managed complex organizations and has worked closely with our defense, intelligence, civil and commercial customers throughout his career. Rick holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from DeVry Institute of Technology, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Denver. He has also attended the Wharton Executive Development Program.
Sondra is a proven executive with a distinguished 26-year career in technology and business leadership. Prior to being named our CIO in 2008, she spent more than 20 years in IS&GS, where she served in program management, and as CIO and VP of Operations. In partnership with Linda, Sondra defined our new cyber security business, offering solutions to government and commercial customers. Sondra also led Corporate Shared Services, where she worked across the enterprise to deploy scalable technology and operational efficiency solutions. Her career includes extensive leadership and technology experience, notably in the design and development of large-scale information systems. Sondra holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and accounting from Temple University and is a graduate of Lockheed Martin’s Program Management Development Program.
These new leadership assignments demonstrate the value of our robust succession and leadership development programs. Rick and Sondra are talented, well-rounded and experienced business leaders, and I am confident that they will help us remain focused on delivering for our customers and growing the business.
Please join me in wishing Joanne and Linda happy and fulfilling retirements and supporting Rick and Sondra’s continued success.
