SUBJECT:      U.S. Government Shutdown Ends and LM Employees to Return to Work

I am very pleased to report that Congress and the Administration have reached an agreement to end the current U.S. government shutdown. The legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama last night includes a continuing resolution that funds the government until January 15, 2014 and extends the debt ceiling until February 7, 2014 to ensure we don’t default on our national debt. This legislation is a temporary measure that gives our lawmakers more time to negotiate a long-term solution to our nation’s budgetary challenges.

The agreement puts Lockheed Martin and U.S. government employees back to work beginning today. We expect U.S. government facilities to open, stop work orders to be lifted and for our operations to begin to return to normal as soon as possible.

If you are currently on directed vacation, you will be contacted by your supervisor or program manager today to discuss the details of your return to work plan.

We will continue to monitor the progress of our lawmakers as they develop the fiscal year 2014 budget and provide you with regular updates.

I know this has been a challenging time for all of us and especially those who were directly impacted by the shutdown. Your patience and understanding was appreciated and your continued commitment to serving our customers is inspiring. Thank you for the important work you perform with excellence every day.
