Described as the safest and most advanced plant of its kind in the world, the 3,863-acre facility is located 6 miles northeast of Troy, Alabama, and 30 miles south of Montgomery, Alabama's state capital. At the facility, workers perform the final assembly, test, and storage of Lockheed Martin systems. The Troy facility is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the 2011 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement award from the Defense Security Service—which includes eight consecutive “superior” ratings by the service for the facility. Troy Operations was named by Industry Week magazine as one of America's 10 best industrial plants in October 2007, and in 2006 it won the Alabama Manufacturer of the Year award.
