SUBJECT: Out of Many, One

On Wednesday, we celebrate the birthday of our great nation and the freedom we cherish.  Since the first militiamen fought at Lexington and Concord, every generation of Americans has answered the call to protect our freedom, defend our way of life, and bring hope to those oppressed by tyrants and terrorists.

America’s greatness is derived from its strength, and its strength is derived from the goodness of its people.  We come from every corner of the world, we embrace diversity, we encourage our children to pursue their dreams, and we are united in our purpose and sense of boundless opportunity.  Occasionally, we have our differences, but at its core, our country is built on a simple foundation:  e pluribus unum, which means, out of many, one.  Engraved on our currency, these few words capture the spirit of America.

For 100 of America’s 236 years, Lockheed Martin and its heritage companies have been an integral part of American history.  We have helped our country serve its citizens, win its wars, advance its technologies, bolster its economy, and position it as the world’s most powerful and prosperous nation.  As we embark on our second century, we’re continuing to serve America and its allies, standing true to our values, firm in our commitment, and resolute in our support.

As we celebrate on Wednesday with family and friends at cookouts and parades, concerts and fireworks, let’s remember what it means to be free, and remember those who make that possible.  Let’s express our gratitude to the men and women serving here at home and across the globe so that we may live the lives we choose in freedom and safety.  And let’s take pride in the role all of us play in making the world a better place.

Thank you for all that you do to make our company – and our country – great.  We wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July.
