SUBJECT:      Go Green Achievements: Rising to the Challenge of Tomorrow
 
In recent years we’ve made smarter, better informed decisions to avoid the overconsumption of natural resources, and today I’m pleased to make two announcements that affirm our past and future commitment to environmental sustainability.
 
We’ve earned recognition for our efforts to monitor and reduce carbon emissions from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an organization that represents 655 institutional investors with $78 trillion in assets under management.  In the 2012 CDP S&P 500 report released yesterday, we scored 93 of 100 in carbon disclosure and earned an “A” for performance.  We also solidified our place as an industry leader, outperforming all other Aerospace & Defense companies and many other companies with our carbon performance.
 
Today we take another leap forward by launching Go Green 2020, a new set of environmental goals.  Within eight years, we intend to improve our performance by reducing carbon emissions by 35 percent, facility energy use by 20 percent, waste to landfills by 35 percent and water use by 10 percent, using our environmental performance from 2010 as a baseline.  These voluntary reductions go beyond current regulatory requirements and also meet or exceed the environmental goals of our largest customers.
 
Our new goals are aggressive, but they are attainable because of your collective enthusiasm and bold thinking.  It enabled us to achieve or surpass our previous Go Green goals to cut carbon emissions, waste sent to landfills and water use and each by 25 percent, a year earlier than planned.  With our new goals, we can apply that same focus and one-company effort to the way we develop and manufacture products, manage suppliers and operate facilities.
 
Our investment is paying off, from the largest outdoor solar LED lighting system in the state of Florida at our Orlando facility and our fuel cell power generation system in Sunnyvale, Calif., to reusable containers for aircraft parts that eliminate wood packaging and streamline production in both Pinellas, Fla., and Fort Worth, Texas.
