Honoring Our Veterans

Memorandum

DATE:             November 12, 2012
TO:                  All Lockheed Martin U.S. Employees
FROM:            Bob Stevens, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Marillyn Hewson, President and Chief Operating Officer

SUBJECT:      Honoring Our Veterans

Today and tomorrow, we will commemorate Veterans Day by hosting our first Military/Veterans Leadership Forum at the Center for Leadership Excellence.  With 250 of our veterans in attendance, we’ll recognize – and thank – the more than 26,000 employees of this remarkable company that have served or are currently serving in the armed forces, and who provide us with a rich source of experience and leadership skills.  We will also recognize – and thank – the military family members – the spouses, children, parents and siblings – who are part of our team or support the veterans among us, and who also make immeasurable contributions to our company and nation.

Lockheed Martin is a unique enterprise distinguished by a century-long legacy of serving the armed forces in conflict and in peacetime.  That proud legacy is at the foundation of who we are as a company.  Our Military/Veterans Leadership Forum will be an opportunity to underscore the importance of an inclusive work environment that acknowledges the valuable contributions of our colleagues from all branches of service.

To extend the reach of the Forum, we will make the presentations available as replays.  We will also have attendees blogging during the event.  If interested in tuning in during or after the Forum, you may access the replay and blog site from the Military/Veterans Leadership Forum SharePoint.

Lockheed Martin’s commitment to our veterans extends well beyond this forum.  In 2011 alone, we hired more than 3,300 transitioning military personnel and veterans.  We have ongoing programs to reach out to veterans returning to civilian life through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes initiative.  Also, this month we are launching a Supplier Diversity portal, Supplier Wire, on our website that will feature a dedicated section for veteran-owned businesses that may want to work with Lockheed Martin.  And we are a proud, major sponsor of programs that support Wounded Warriors and fund scholarships for deserving military children.

To our veterans and military family members, thank you for your service.  And to all Lockheed Martin employees, thank you for all you do to support American and allied servicemen and women.  Appreciating the service of our military people is fundamental to our ideals, and it’s a legacy we can all take pride in on Veterans Day and every day.
