First Fleet Hellfire Missile Hits Its Mark

ORLANDO, FL, March 16th, 1998 -- In the first Navy fleet firing of a Lockheed Martin Hellfire missile, a U.S. Atlantic Fleet SH-60B LAMPS MK III helicopter sank a target vessel on January 19, at a fleet testing range off Puerto Rico. The aircraft, assigned to "The Hellraisers," a rapid deployment detachment of Helicopter Antisubmarine Helicopter Squadron Light 44, was piloted by Navy Lieutenants Paul Puopolo and Dab Kern.
