Lockheed Martin Receives Prestigious Air Traffic Control Association Award

ROCKVILLE, MD, September 11th, 1998 -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has been selected as the recipient of the Air Traffic Control Association's 1998 Industry Award, to be presented at ATCA's 43rd Annual Meeting, International Technical Programs and Exhibits, in Atlantic City, N.J., on November 3. The ATCA 1998 Industry Award recognizes outstanding achievement and contribution in advancing the science of air traffic control. The award to Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management recognizes the company's worldwide contributions in support of air traffic control systems. Specifically, the company was nominated for its support of the FAA's Display System Replacement (DSR) and Common Automated Radar Terminal System (Common ARTS) modernization programs.

DSR is the cornerstone FAA air traffic control modernization program to replace 20-to-30-year-old air traffic control equipment in all 20 FAA Air Route Traffic Control Centers in the U.S. with new controller workstations, display computer hardware and software, and network infrastructure. The DSR program has met all major milestones on schedule and within budget.

Common ARTS is an evolutionary replacement for the air traffic control systems in use at 136 of the FAA's terminal approach control facilities. It replaces 30-year-old equipment with highly reliable commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) processors. Most recently declared operational at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility, Common ARTS has been installed at 17 FAA ARTS sites since the deployment began in February 1998.

"We're delighted to be honored with the most prestigious award for our industry, and we continue to be proud of our role in working with the FAA and our other customers worldwide to deliver technology that helps meet their needs for air traffic improvements, enhancements and growth," said Don Antonucci, President, Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management.

This award represents the second year in a row that Lockheed Martin has been honored with the ATCA Industry Award. Last year, the company received the award in recognition of its performance on the Display Channel Complex Rehost and Micro-EARTS programs, also FAA modernization efforts.
