Lockheed Martin Awarded Contract For Scottish Radar And Display Air Traffic Control System
ROCKVILLE, MD, 01/04/2000 -- Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management, a business unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT), announced a contract award from the United Kingdom's National Air Traffic Services (NATS) to provide a Radar Data Processing and Display System for the Scottish Area Control Centre (ScACC) in Prestwick, Scotland. The contract, with a potential value of $7 million, calls for Lockheed Martin to provide new radar displays for the controllers at Prestwick as part of an ongoing program of improvements to alleviate capacity and maintenance constraints with the existing system.. The new equipment is planned to be operational by the first quarter of 2001. This system will provide an interim solution to NATS' near term capacity concerns until the New Scottish Centre (NSC) project replaces it.
The radar data processing capabilities of Lockheed Martin's SkyLine product will upgrade control services for the entire Scottish Flight Information Region, which covers the 137,000 sqm airspace above Scotland and northern England.
We are pleased to provide this interim system to meet NATS' near-term needs at Prestwick. We will be working on an aggressive schedule to put this system into operational service according to NATS' requirements, commented Jim Craig, Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management's vice president for International Programs. Our Skyline architecture allows us to tailor the system to match the existing controller interface and integrate the new system with the existing equipment, quickly and cost effectively.
