Lockheed Martin's Manasass Facility Receives State Environmental Excellence Designation

MANASSAS, VA, 03-NOV-00 -- Lockheed Martin in Manassas has been named the first recipient of the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program's Exemplary Environmental Enterprise (E3) designation. Frank M. DeBritz, president of Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems-Undersea Systems, was presented with a certificate at the Manassas site on November 3, 2000, by John Paul Woodley, Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources, and Dennis H. Treacy, Director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

This is a significant achievement that ultimately will benefit all Virginians, Treacy said. We are looking forward to continued success at the Lockheed Martin Manassas facility and at other facilities throughout Virginia that participate in the Environmental Excellence Program.

The Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) was established by DEQ to recognize outstanding leadership in environmental management systems and environmental performance for business, industry and government. The VEEP is part of Virginia Innovations for Pollution Prevention (VIP2), a state initiative designed to improve environmental quality through non-traditional approaches that reward innovation and leadership.

As a corporation with a history of striving to achieve cleaner, more efficient technologies and operations, we are heartened to be the first recipient of this distinguished designation, DeBritz said. I salute the Commonwealth of Virginia for launching this innovative approach to protecting the environment, and the Chemical Environmental Safety and Health Department for achieving this well deserved recognition.

The Manassas site was accepted into the program based on its outstanding environmental management system and pollution prevention program. In addition, natural resources officials noted the breadth and scope of the site's environmental management program over a 25-year period, as well as its participation in environmental education programs for area high school students.

Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems in Manassas is a leader in developing and integrating complex systems for domestic and international military, civil government and commercial customers.
