Lockheed Martin's Syracuse Facility Achieves ISO 9001:2000 Registration
SYRACUSE, NY, 29-AUG-01 -- Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems-Radar Systems (NE&SS-Radar Systems) in Syracuse received its certificate of registration to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 - Quality Management Systems, becoming one of the first Central New York companies to do so. The team takes great pride in achieving this significant credential, said Mike Smith, president, NE&SS-Radar Systems. This achievement reinforces our company's quality system as being among the best of class.
Following a business-wide quality assessment in June, Underwriter's Laboratories recommended the company for ISO 9001:2000 registration, signifying its compliance. While the company has been registered against ISO 9001 since January 1996, a major revision to the standard was issued in December 2000, expanding it to encompass the overall business enterprise, with an increased emphasis on business objectives, customer satisfaction, and continuous process improvement.
This achievement is a significant accomplishment for our business, said Walt Miller, program and systems quality senior manager, who helped coordinate the review. We were complimented on our ambitious approach to meeting the new standard, a process many companies have yet to begin.
A leader in ground-based and airborne radar, surface vessel and submarine electronic warfare, anti-submarine warfare systems and sensors, minehunting systems and vessel traffic management, Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems in Syracuse serves customers including all branches of the U.S. armed forces, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Transportation and State, and defense and transportation departments of countries on six continents.
