The funds will be used to establish interdisciplinary design projects across engineering disciplines; sponsor seven scholarships for disadvantaged and underrepresented students; sponsor academic awards in degree programs of special interest to Lockheed Martin; and fund a graduate fellowship, in either computer science, system engineering or electrical engineering.

UVA is an institution that is helping its students develop critical skills in fields of study that are critical for the continued success of Lockheed Martin. We're pleased that we are able to support UVA degree programs that are of priority to Lockheed Martin, said Mike Barbee, vice president, Lockheed Martin Management and Data Systems, who serves as the corporation's university executive to the school.

Lockheed Martin has supported the school and its students in many different ways, including sponsoring projects, events and it has made other donations in support of scholarships and fellowships.
