LOCKHEED MARTIN ENGINEERS SHOW TEACHERS REAL WORLD MATH APPLICATIONS

NEW ORLEANS, LA., 19-JUN-01 -- As part of Lockheed Martin’s ongoing activity to heighten student awareness of math and science, Michoud Operations will host a luncheon workshop on Wednesday, June 20 for middle and secondary math teachers at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans.

The math instructors are part of a summer institute sponsored by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College that offers teachers hands-on laboratory and field-based mathematical applications and activities, including the effective use of technology.

The interactive workshop begins with a 10:30 a.m. tour of the Space Shuttle External Tank production facility, followed by an 11:45 a.m. “working lunch” where engineers will demonstrate math applications vital to the design and assembly of the External Tank.
