Lands' End Selects Lockheed Martin to Integrate High-Speed Packing System
OWEGO, NY, 30-OCT-01 -- Lands' End Inc., a leading direct merchant of clothing, luggage, gifts and specialty items for both home and corporate promotions, selected Lockheed Martin to install a packing sorter system at the retailer's order fulfillment center in Dodgeville, Wis. The multimillion-dollar project is the first step of a multiphase program for Lands' End with Lockheed Martin Distribution Technologies, the business unit responsible for the overall design and system implementation.
The system, which includes computer controls, a high-speed cross belt sorter, conveyor and automatic and semi-automatic packing systems, will consolidate single- and multiple-item orders for more efficient packing and shipping. A critical selection parameter for Lands' End was Lockheed Martin's proven ability to implement systems integration with minimal disruption to existing operations.
This is a significant project for us because we're able to demonstrate our skills as a timely and efficient distribution systems provider as we expand our material handling reach into business-to-consumer fulfillment, said Distribution Technologies President Judy Marks.
Lockheed Martin Distribution Technologies, Owego, N.Y., designs, produces and integrates mail automation, material handling, recognition and information processing systems for postal services, corporate mail centers, package delivery operations and distribution, fulfillment and manufacturing centers worldwide. Distribution Technologies is a business unit of Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego, which is a business segment of Lockheed Martin Corporation.
