NASA ADMINISTRATOR O'KEEFE TO VISIT MICHOUD ASSEMBLY FACILITY FRIDAY
NEW ORLEANS, LA., February 21st, 2002 -- Newly appointed NASA Administrator Sean O’Keefe will visit the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, La., on Friday, Feb. 22, as part of his familiarization tour of NASA facilities.
During his visit Administrator O’Keefe will meet with employees and tour the facility where NASA’s Space Shuttle External Tanks are manufactured.
Interested news media may accompany the Administrator on a tour of the External Tank production line beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following the tour he will be available at 11:30 a.m. to speak briefly with the media.
Administrator O’Keefe, a native of New Orleans and graduate of Loyola University, was sworn in Dec. 21 as the agency’s 10th chief, following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate on Dec. 20. President George W. Bush nominated him for the position Nov. 14.

The government-owned facility is operated for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala., by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. The company’s Michoud Operations designs and assembles large aluminum and composite structures for aerospace and other applications, including the Space Shuttle External Tank.
