Lockheed Martin in Syracuse Achieves CMMI® Level 4 Rating
SYRACUSE, NY, November 25th, 2002 -- Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems (NE&SS) in Syracuse, N.Y., has been assessed at Maturity Level 4 against the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model - Integrated (CMMI®). The CMMI® credential demonstrates that the company coordinates its systems, software and equipment engineering work and drives quality processes throughout the organization. Lockheed Martin's Syracuse site is the third Lockheed Martin site to achieve the rating. The SEI, based at Carnegie Mellon University, developed CMMI® to enable the U.S. Department of Defense to more readily and objectively assess the full range of capabilities of its industry partners. CMMI® allows a company to assess its overall engineering capability and encompasses ongoing evaluations and integrated product development. Various radar and undersea systems programs participated in the assessment.
"This accomplishment will become a critical discriminator in the increasingly competitive marketplace for complex systems integration," said Mike Smith, president, NE&SS-Radar Systems. "Now, more than at any other time, superior process adherence and improvement is critical to ensuring that we are capable of meeting the complex needs and objectives of our customers."
