OWEGO, NY, 28-OCT-04 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has honored 14 employees from its Systems Integration business in Owego, NY, with NOVA Awards, the corporation’s highest recognition for significant individual or team accomplishments. The employees were recognized in the categories of teamwork and technical excellence.

Lockheed Martin Systems Integration – Owego Senior Program Manager Robert C. Breidinger and his team received a NOVA Award in teamwork for their creativity in winning the $424 million Multi-year Common Cockpit program for U.S. Navy helicopters. This sterling effort featured price-based acquisition, which resulted in savings to the customer of more than 16 percent, and an innovative payment approach to meet the customer’s funding constraints.

Our NOVA Award winners have truly set the bar with their accomplishments.”

The Common Cockpit team consisted of Cathy Gasper, contract negotiator; Timothy Thomas, senior business development analyst, Multi-Mission Solutions; Gary Montesano, Subsystem Solutions business operations manager; Rock Shadduck, systems engineering senior manager; John Natoli, manager, Subcontract Program Management and Supply Chain Management; Aloysius Shipman, program manager; Ronald Vienneau, MH-60S chief engineer; Louis Neira, Subcontract program manager; Marc Battaglini, LAMPs processor program manager; and Charles Deitchman, manager, Washington Multi-Mission Solutions business development.

In the category of technical excellence, John C. Burkey, principal systems engineer, won for his work defining, documenting and selling a new system architecture for the Soothsayer program. Soothsayer is a ground-based electronic warfare system for United Kingdom land forces. Burkey is responsible for ensuring that the overall systems architecture and design meets the land forces’ operational needs.

Mike Drake, director of Communications and Public Affairs, and Tricia D’Agostino, senior Internet marketing representative, were each honored with a NOVA Award in teamwork as part of the corporatewide Internet Web Site Consolidation team. The group transitioned the corporation from more than 400 separate Internet sites to one Web site, with subsections for each business unit. This effort resulted in a unified presentation of Lockheed Martin on the Internet.
