CONGRESSMAN CHARLIE MELANCON TO SEE EXTERNAL TANK IMPROVEMENTS FOR RETURN TO FLIGHT

NEW ORLEANS, LA, 08-JUL-05 -- U.S. Congressman Charlie Melancon (D-La.) will visit the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Monday, July 11 – just two days before Space Shuttle Discovery is scheduled to return to flight.

The congressman will see real-time improvements that NASA and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) are making to a Space Shuttle External Tank (ET) that will fly in the near future from Kennedy Space Center. Melancon will also tour the ET production line and see several technology demonstrations featuring fiber placement and friction stir welding at the National Center for Advanced Manufacturing, located at Michoud.

Lockheed Martin Space Systems -- Michoud Operations builds the Space Shuttle External Tank at the Michoud Assembly Facility and assembles large aluminum and composite structures for aerospace and other applications in New Orleans.
