SUPANCIC AWARDED LOCKHEED MARTIN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Middletown, RI, 12-JUL-05 -- Sara Supancic, the daughter of Lockheed Martin engineering manager Carl Supancic and Sandee Supancic of Bristol is the recipient of a Lockheed Martin Corporate Foundation scholarship. Sara, who received the award as a result of being a National Merit Scholarship finalist, will receive $3,000 per year from the foundation for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Sara is a graduating senior at St. Mary Academy in Riverside, where she was an active member of the math and mock trial teams, as well as president of the school’s chapter of the Excalibur National Science Honor Society. Sara also graduated as a member of both the National and Rhode Island Honor Societies. On the school athletic front, Sara rowed for the varsity crew team for the last three years, and served as team captain during her senior year.

For the past three years, Sara has been a Sea Cadet, with promotion to Petty Officer 1st Class pending. She received the Navy League youth medal and ribbon award and was recognized as Cadet of the Year in April. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts for nine years, accumulating numerous awards along the way.

Sara has received and accepted a principal appointment to the United States Naval Academy from Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy, and reported for induction day and the commencement of “Plebe Summer” on June 29.

The children of employees who are National Merit Scholar Finalists are eligible for scholarships through the Lockheed Martin Corporate Foundation. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which administers Lockheed Martin’s highly competitive program, notes that this year’s 48 recipients, in earning the designation of National Merit Scholars, have placed themselves academically within the top one-half of 1 percent of all U.S. high school graduates.
