LOCKHEED MARTIN REOPENS TO ALL EMPLOYEES

NEW ORLEANS, LA, 01-NOV-05 -- Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Michoud Operations has recalled all of its 2,000 employees to work, effective today. The company builds the Space Shuttle External Tank for NASA at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans.

The facility is rapidly recovering from the damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina on August 29. The Michoud facility resumed limited production operations in the last week of September with 250 employees at Michoud and another 200 relocated temporarily in Huntsville, AL and Houston, TX. The number of employees returning to Michoud has steadily increased each week since that time.

Vice President & General Manager Marshall Byrd will be available to discuss the workforce status with media from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1.

Michoud Operations is currently in the process of retrofitting two External Tanks that NASA returned from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida in October. The tanks will be available to support the Space Shuttle flight manifest for 2006.
