Gyrocam Systems Showcases IED Detection Platform at FPED VI
Sarasota, FL, 08/17/2007 --
Stafford, VA – Gyrocam Systems demonstrated its mast mounted camera system, used for IED detection and surveillance, at the recent Force Protection Equipment Demonstration (FPED), held at Stafford Regional airport.
This platform is comprised of a mast mounted gyrostabilized camera system and BAE Systems' RG33 armored vehicle. Over 200 gyrostabilized camera systems are currently fielded in Iraq and Afghanistan in the hunt for IEDs, which have proven to save lives by allowing soldiers to complete their missions of detecting and locating roadside IEDs from the safety of their armored vehicle.
The camera system package includes the Gyrocam TS Triple Sensor which provides advanced infrared, NextGen gated NightVision and high resolution color imaging in a 15 gimbal. Because the unit is gyrostabilized, movements and vibrations inherent with an image captured from a camera on a moving platform are eliminated, rendering clear and stable images. By using all the sensors in the Gyrocam TS, operators can also detect variations in the imagery, alerting them to possible IEDs.
The FPED VI provides leaders and decision-makers from DoD, Federal departments and agencies, and selected state and local law enforcement with the opportunity to observe and become familiar with COTS force protection equipment available for procurement and testing.
