Lockheed Martin to Provide Weapon System Officer Training for Royal Saudi Air Force
ORLANDO, FL, 02/20/2008 -- Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT] was awarded a three-year contract by the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) to produce and establish an undergraduate Weapon System Officer (WSO) training program at the King Faisal Air Academy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The contract calls for design, development and delivery of courseware, electronic classrooms, training devices, and a training management system as well as in-Kingdom instruction and maintenance support services. Lockheed Martin will develop the program during the first two years of the contract and provide training in the final year. Options can be exercised by the RSAF to continue the program for an additional three years.
The WSO's role in combat aircraft, such as the F-15 and Tornado requires a high level of skill and knowledge of the aircraft's systems to maximize mission success, said Lorraine Martin, vice president of Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training and Support Flight Solutions. We look forward to working with the RSAF as we progress to operation of the program at the King Faisal Air Academy.
The WSO is directly involved in all air operations and weapon systems of an aircraft. The WSO integrates with the pilot to collectively achieve and maintain crew efficiency, situational awareness and mission effectiveness.
