Lockheed Martin Eagan Employees Honored For Nearly 20,000 Hours

EAGAN, MN, 05/15/2008 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT]'s Eagan business recently recognized 288 employees who volunteered a total of 19,935 hours toward community efforts and K-12 education initiatives in 2007.

Of those honored, 66 employees were recognized with the President's Volunteer Service Award for exemplary commitment to their community and for contributing more than 100 hours of volunteer service. Award recipients received a note of congratulations from President George W. Bush, an official President's Volunteer Service Award pin, a personalized certificate of achievement and a letter from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Many of the volunteers spent their time in company-sponsored activities, like Engineers in the Classroom, Space Day, National Engineers Week and Women in Engineering, programs seeking to encourage students' interest in math, science and technology.

It's great to work for an employer that encourages volunteerism, said Candace Harmer, staff manager and volunteer at Lockheed Martin. Recognition for time I spend supporting Special Olympics and the Engineers in the Classroom program confirms that this is the right thing to do.

Lockheed Martin employees also supported outreach and mentoring activities at Kids n' Kinship, DARTs, United Way and the American Cancer Society. Volunteers regularly visited District 197 and Bloomington schools, supporting robotics and LEGO League teams, GEMS/GISE, and the Society of Women Engineers. Employees were involved in e-mail mentoring through BestPrep, Junior Achievement, and the reading and math buddies/mentorship programs at Pilot Knob Elementary School.

Lockheed Martin is committed to active, responsible citizenship and encourages its people to become involved in the communities in which we live and work, said Rick Udicious, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin's Eagan facility. We are energized to help spark student interest in science, technology, engineering and math.

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.
