Lockheed Martin Employees Raise More Than $1 Million for Charity
Owego, NY, 11/20/2008 -- OWEGO, NY, November 20, 2008 – Lockheed Martin [NYSE:LMT] Systems Integration in Owego recently completed its annual Employee Charities of Choice Campaign, with employees donating more than $1 million to local and national charities.
Lockheed Martin employees broke through their goal of $950,000 and exceeded the $1 million mark in pledges to the charity or charitable agency of their choice through payroll deduction in 2009. In total, employees pledged $1,031,798 to charities, many in Broome and Tioga Counties.
In these difficult economic times, it is especially important to ensure our neighbors have what they need, said Marillyn Hewson, company president. I am proud of our employees' commitment to strengthening the Southern Tier through their philanthropic contributions and volunteer efforts.
In addition to charitable donations, Lockheed Martin employees donate their time in the local community. To date, more than 1,500 employees and their families have logged over 75,000 hours of community service in and around Broome and Tioga counties for organizations such as the United Way and Habitat for Humanity, and through company initiatives including Girls in Engineering where employees mentor students, reinforcing the importance of math and science education.
