Lockheed Martin Central Florida Employees Earn U. S. President’s Volunteer Service Award
ORLANDO, FL, 04/19/2010 -- Lockheed Martin will present President Barack Obama's prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award to 292 Central Florida employees who logged more than 100 hours of volunteer service last year. The corporation will recognize these employees' outstanding community efforts during National Volunteer Recognition Week, April 18-24.
The award recipients are among 11,924 Lockheed Martin employees nationwide who collectively logged more than 1.4 million volunteer hours in 2009. Employees in Central Florida collectively logged more than 100,912 hours.
The President's Volunteer Service Awards are presented annually to individuals who volunteer 100 or more hours in their communities during the year. Recipients of the award receive a note of congratulations from President Obama, an official President's Volunteer Service Award pin, a personalized certificate of achievement and a letter from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Lockheed Martin has a 53-year legacy of working with community partners to promote a stronger and healthier Central Florida. In 2009, employees in this region demonstrated their commitment to the community through volunteering for a wide variety of projects including health and human service programs and classroom mentoring and outreach to promote careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.
During National Volunteer Recognition Week, executives at Lockheed Martin's Central Florida businesses will present the awards to qualifying employees at their sites. Lockheed Martin employees across the corporation have recorded 7.7 million volunteer hours since 2002.
