1,100 Lockheed Martin Volunteers Lend a Helping Hand at Edgewood Children’s Ranch

ORLANDO, FL, October 22, 2011 --

Today, approximately 1,100 Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] employees, family members and friends renovated Edgewood Children's Ranch as part of the United Way's annual "Day of Caring."

For decades, Lockheed Martin volunteers have lent a helping hand to build a stronger, healthier Central Florida community. Working in 54 project teams, Lockheed Martin volunteers painted and repaired buildings within the complex, sodded and landscaped the grounds, constructed a new fitness trail and Frisbee golf course, and painted and organized the Edgewood Children's Ranch Thrift Store.

In addition to the revitalization efforts, Lockheed Martin concurrently hosted a technology expo in the Edgewood Children's Ranch auditorium for volunteers and ranch residents. A new addition to Lockheed Martin's Day of Caring activities, the technology expo provided exhibits that encourage science, technology, engineering and math education.

"This annual event is a testament to the pride and commitment each Lockheed Martin employee has for the community in which they live and work," said Joy Sabol, vice president of communications in Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control business, and executive champion of the 2011 Lockheed Martin Central Florida Charitable Giving Campaign. "The Day of Caring is an opportunity for us to make a lasting impression on the lives of Central Florida residents by providing much-needed assistance to organizations that often help us in our most difficult times."

Lockheed Martin donated all materials necessary to complete the 54 projects during the event. Each year, 20 percent of Lockheed Martin's annual charitable contributions and activities are committed to local communities. In 2010, Lockheed Martin employees across the Corporation logged nearly 1.3 million volunteer hours in their communities.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation's 2010 sales from continuing operations were $45.8 billion.
