Local Lockheed Martin Employees Receive Corporation’s Highest Honor
DALLAS/FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 31, 2013 – In a ceremony at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] presented its prestigious NOVA Award to 60 employees from its Aeronautics and Missiles and Fire Control businesses in Fort Worth and Grand Prairie, respectively.
The NOVA Award is the company’s highest honor presented annually to individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to the corporation’s mission and business objectives.
The annual NOVA Awards ceremony was hosted by Lockheed Martin Chief Executive Officer and President Marillyn Hewson on Friday, October 25, to recognize employees for their outstanding achievements. Dallas-Fort Worth-based honorees are:
James A. Arness, a senior engineer from Grapevine, won a special recognition award for Technical Innovation for conceptualizing and developing a process using white-light photogrammetric technology to create a three-dimensional overlay of as-built images of assembled F-35 aircraft for comparison to nominal engineering models. Because of his efforts, the technology and new processes are now used a standard capability for the corporation.
John G. Clark, an open systems and software senior manager from Weatherford, won the individual NOVA for Technical Excellence for his knowledge and expertise in Open Systems Architecture, which includes a philosophy and approach that has been adopted by customers.

The Aircraft Modification Team developed and implemented innovative approaches to modify flight test and production aircraft in support of the F-35 Lightning II program.

The F-22 Physiological Incident Resolution Team successfully worked with the Life Support System Task Force chartered by the U.S. Air Force to determine the cause of unexplained physiological incidents on the F-22 Raptor fleet. In less than one year, the team uncovered contributory factors, identified a solution, installed an independent oxygen sensor throughout the fleet, and developed and flight-tested an automatic back-up oxygen system.

The Miniature Munition Team impressed a vital new customer for MFC and provided the business with a new family of products for the U.S. warfighter by developing solutions through technical excellence and determination. MFC had a need to address a critical warfighting niche, and the Miniature Munition Team pioneered methods that would fill that niche in an extremely lean environment.

The Security Category Management Team leveraged a single contract guard supplier solution across the corporation that yielded significant cost savings and increased the quality of contract guards throughout Lockheed Martin. The team’s combined work, which resulted in the selection of a single supplier for contract guard services across 74 Lockheed Martin sites, will save the corporation a minimum of $4.7 million per year over the next five years.

The Lockheed Martin NOVA Awards were created in 1995. The name “NOVA” aptly describes the contributions of the winners as the bright stars of the corporation.
