Lockheed Martin Pledges $50,000 to Colorado Flood Relief and Provides Support to Affected Employees
DENVER, Sept. 26, 2013 – As the Colorado flood relief efforts continue, Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] announced it will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross and open the Lockheed Martin Employee Disaster Relief Fund (LMEDRF) to support employees affected by the natural disaster.
“Community outreach and support is part of the culture at Lockheed Martin,” said Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, headquartered in Denver. “When something as devastating as the flooding here in Colorado happens, it is our responsibility as a Corporation to help not only our employees but also the local communities where we live and work.”
The donation to the American Red Cross will support Red Cross flood relief efforts to repair damage from the devastating floods in Colorado by providing assistance to thousands of people impacted by the natural disaster.
“We are so very grateful for this support from Lockheed Martin – donations like this help us provide shelter, food, comfort and recovery supplies to the residents affected by these historic floods and will help ensure that we are ready to respond to other disasters that may strike in our Colorado communities,” said Gino Greco, CEO of the American Red Cross of Colorado.
Lockheed Martin’s Colorado flood relief donation to the American Red Cross follows a $100,000 donation made by the Corporation earlier this year to support the Colorado wildfire relief efforts. The Corporation has 8,300 employees and two businesses, Space Systems Company and Information Systems and Global Solutions, located in Colorado.
In addition, Lockheed Martin opened the Lockheed Martin Employee Disaster Relief Fund (LMEDRF), which assists employees in federally declared disaster areas. Since its creation in 2006, employees have contributed more than $10 million to help their coworkers in times of need. The LMEDRF is fully funded by employee and company donations and provides emergency, short-term assistance for employees impacted by declared disasters. Since inception, the LMEDRF has been activated in response to 23 disasters.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 116,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services.
