For nearly 40 years, Lockheed Martin designed, engineered, tested and delivered the external tank for the NASA space shuttle program. During this time, our team developed best of class processes and expertise relating to the safe storage and transportation of cryogenic fluids.
Lockheed Martin continues to leverage its cryogenic tank capabilities, and in 2013, established a manufacturing center at Michoud Assembly Facility to produce cryogenic tanks and support equipment for the distribution, storage and transportation of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
As a fuel source for numerous applications, LNG supports the United States’ push for independence from foreign oil, helps exploit the economic advantages of natural gas, and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Building high quality tanks designed for distribution, storage, fueling, and transportation is another prominent example of Lockheed Martin’s ability to deliver trusted solutions to solve complex challenges for its customers.
