Versitality and Commonality

The F-35 program is the first to develop and produce field support equipment that can be used during production, manufacturing, sustainment and depot environments. This eliminates the need for similar equipment development and dramatically reduces costs.

In addition, using the F-35-unique support equipment in combination with existing legacy equipment improves affordability. And finally, the support equipment is built for commonality to be used across all three variants.

The ground support equipment is as versatile as the aircraft and integrated with structures that streamline access and ensure simplicity and ease of maintenance. Engine trailers, engine removal equipment, ejection seat maintenance equipment, power carts, aircraft jacks, engine testers – all are designed to harmonize with mission objectives. This equipment is compartmentalized and optimized to minimize the logistics footprint and maximize the informational resources of the Global Sustainment structure. Operational costs fall as aircraft maintenance is expedited and readiness rates soar.
