About Space Systems

Space is a demanding environment. But with systems built by Lockheed Martin, space is where the future takes flight, through partnerships that raise global communications, weather forecasting, space exploration and national security to new levels.  Delivering vital space capabilities is all a question of how. And it is the how that makes all the difference.

Space Systems Company designs, develops, tests, manufactures and operates a full spectrum of advanced-technology systems for national security, civil and commercial customers. Chief products include human space flight systems; a full range of remote sensing, navigation, meteorological and communications satellites and instruments; space observatories and interplanetary spacecraft; laser radar; fleet ballistic missiles; and missile defense systems.

Space Systems, with major operations in Denver, Colo., and Sunnyvale, Calif., is focused on several core lines of business:  Human Space Flight, Global Communications Systems, Commercial Space, Sensing & Exploration Systems, Missile Defense Systems, Strategic Missiles, Commercial Launch Systems, Surveillance & Navigation Systems and Special Programs.

Space Systems Company’s two significant joint ventures are:

United Space Alliance, based in Houston, TX, a joint venture with The Boeing Company that manages the Space Shuttle program for NASA.

United Launch Alliance, based in Denver, CO., a joint venture formed by Lockheed Martin and The Boeing Company in 2006, to provide Atlas and Delta launch services for the U.S. Government, including the Department of Defense, NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Reconnaissance Office.
