STEM Education
Lockheed Martin’s Engineers in the Classroom (EITC) education outreach initiative is designed to develop and inspire students toward entering careers that have their foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses.  Through EITC, Lockheed Martin supports a wide-range of diverse, measurable and sustainable activities that reach students and educators from elementary school through college.  We aim to improve the quality of STEM education, enhance academic performance, train and recruit qualified teachers, and engage students with hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning opportunities.

Engineers in the Classroom provides numerous opportunities for employees to interact with the next generation of engineers and technologists by serving as school advisors, extracurricular activity mentors and career role models for students in communities near our facilities.

Key STEM Partnerships and Programs Include:

  • Project Lead The Way’s high school engineering program, Pathway to Technology, and middle school engineering program, Gateway to Technology
  • 4-H Robotics Clubs and National Youth Science Day
  • USA Science and Engineering Festival
  • National Math & Science Initiative
  • FIRST

Customer and Constituent Support
We promote quality solutions with measurable impact for our customers’ and constituents’ priorities in global security and military service member aid. Funding touches the service member at every stage of their career from military academies to scholarships for their children. In step with the growing need, we are increasing focus on wounded warriors and job transition programs to help reintegrate those who have served.

In 2011, we supported the programs of more than 200 organizations of importance to our customers and constituents including:

  • Families- LM Severely Wounded Warriors Scholarship Fund:  We support scholarships for post-high school education to deserving sons and daughters of Marines with particular attention given to children whose parent has been killed or wounded in action. The Lockheed Martin Severely Wounded Warriors Fund offers scholarships to children of permanently disabled Marines.
  • Wounded Warriors- Operation Mend:  We are the lead corporate sponsor of this special military-focused program of the UCLA Hospital System that provides reconstructive plastic surgery for the most severely burned and disfigured soldiers that have returned home from service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Guard and Reserves- Our Military Kids:  As America’s National Guard and Reserves are deployed their children face uncertainties. In part, through our support these children earn scholarships to participate in extra-curricular activities from tutoring to sports bringing a sense of normalcy and financial relief to families.

Community Involvement
One of our core values is investing directly in local communities.  Through direct financial resources, board leadership and skills, and knowledge transfer, we strengthen our communities through numerous civic, cultural, environmental, or health and human services programs.

Community outreach is handled at the local level and includes support for:

  • Homeless shelters
  • Food drives
  • Programs that aid disadvantaged families
  • Programs for children who are ill or have faced a tragedy
  • Medical-research and health-related organizations
