Italy

Lockheed Martin has partnered with Italy to provide a broad range of programs and capabilities including tactical aircraft, radar systems and air and missile defense.  In addition, Lockheed Martin and Italian industry have worked closely on program such as the Littoral Combat Ship and the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Today, the Italian government is participating in the F-35 program as a Level 2 Partner in the System Development and Demonstration (SDD) phase and signed the Production, Sustainment and Follow-On Development (PSFD) phase.  As an F-35 partner, Italian industry will have the opportunity to supply parts and systems. Additionally, an F-35 final assembly and checkout facility (FACO) is being constructed at Cameri Air Base (Novara, Piedmont).

Other major programs include:

C-130 Hercules –The first C-130H in delivered in 1972. In 2000, the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana – AMI) received their first C-130J Super Hercules and now has 21 in its fleet. In 2010, Alenia Aeronautica, the leader of an industrial team with Avio and Lockheed Martin, signed a five-year contract with the AMI to provide technical and logistical support services for their C-130J airlift fleet.

F-16-  Lockheed Martin provides technical, training and spares support to F-16A/B aircraft provided by the U.S. government to Italy under a leasing agreement. The Italian Air Force F-16 has achieved more than 45,000 flight hours on the F-16.

Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS)- The U.S., Italy and Germany are partners in the development of MEADS, a mobile air and missile defense system designed to replace Patriot systems in the United States, Germany and Italy.

Radar Systems- Italy uses AN/FPS 117 and AN/TPS 77, Long Range Solid-State Radar and Tactical Transportable Radar System. (More information needed)

Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS)-  The Italian Army was the first European army to field the Lance missile in the 1960s.

Littoral Combat Program- Fincantieri is a major international partner with Lockheed Martin in the development of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program for the U.S. Navy. A Fincantieri design is the basis for the LCS hull, and Fincantieri recently purchased a US-based builder with Lockheed Martin as an investing partner. (Program Page?)

F-35 EOTS - Embedded in the F-35, EOTS is the latest generation infrared sensor technology that provides high-resolution imagery, automatic tracking, infrared-search-and-track, laser designation and range-finding, and laser spot tracking at greatly increased standoff ranges.
