Lockheed Martin is deepening its commitment to prepare the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators by closing skills gaps and expanding opportunity through a 2021 investment of over $6 million in the Vocational and STEM Scholarship programs. This is just one piece of the corporation’s talent and workforce development efforts and adds to the $7 million investment in scholarship programs to date.

“As a global innovation leader, we recognize that investments in U.S. education and workforce development are critical to growing economic opportunity,” said Greg Karol, Lockheed Martin Senior Vice President of Human Resources. “Lockheed Martin Vocational and STEM scholarship programs are a core component of our efforts to cultivate a competitive and diverse American workforce that can make far-reaching impacts in manufacturing, technology and other career paths."

The nation’s technological advantage and security depend on highly trained, highly capable STEM talent. Because of this, we are focused on removing barriers that sit between students and those technical skills, especially for those students from underrepresented populations in these fields. The STEM Scholarship and Vocational Scholarship Programs are part of that commitment to expand opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds.

Vocational Scholarship Program

Through the second year of the Vocational Scholarship Program, Lockheed Martin continues to lead in the domestic aerospace and defense industry in investing in skilled pathways into the workforce. This program currently supports 150 students of all ages, skillsets and levels of education participating in skills-based training in cutting-edge technology and advanced manufacturing fields.

These scholarship programs have additional meaning in this time when the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted career and education plans for so many Americans.
