Lockheed Martin Receives Contract Award of $60 Million for Modernized Radar Frequency Interferometer (MRFI) Production
OWEGO, N.Y., November 5, 2018 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) received a five-year, $60 million contract award from the U.S. Army to provide AN/APR-48B Modernized Radar Frequency Interferometers (MRFI), spares and sustainment hardware for domestic and foreign military sales to the United Kingdom, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the Republic of Korea.
The MRFI system delivers accurate information by its ability to quickly detect, identify, prioritize, and locate radars in dynamic battlefield environments to protect air crews. The system idenfities intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and allows the pilot to detect a threat long before the aircraft becomes vurlnerable and engage first, increasing aircraft survivability and lethality.
“We are pleased to provide the AN/APR-48B MRFI system to the U.S. Army and to our global partners with enhanced situational awareness in the battlefield,” said Robert Adams, Electronic Warfare director, Rotary and Mission Systems. “In today’s environment, having the ability to detect what’s in the electromagnetic spectrum first is crucial to our air crews and aircraft’s survivability.”
Lockheed Martin has provided more than 3,000 airborne electronic warfare (EW) systems for 45 years to the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. EW systems provide electronic attack, electronic protection and electronic support to disrupt adversaries and protect warfighters. Other airborne EW systems include the AN/ALQ-210 for U.S. Navy and international MH-60R, AN/ALQ-217 for the U.S. Navy’s E-2C/D aircraft, and the APR-52 digital RWR for U.S. Air Force Comat Rescue Helicopters.
Work will be performed in Owego, New York, with expected completion by 2023.
