TF-50 Trainer Jet for Flight Training

Introducing the TF-50

With today’s fast-paced world, we recognize the need militaries have to get their pilots trained faster and better than ever before – that’s where the TF-50 comes into play. The TF-50 is a variant of the proven T-50 trainer platform that is uniquely configured as an advanced trainer and light attack fighter. It has modern capabilities to meet multiple missions and get new pilots flying operational sorties faster. We’re expanding on the platform’s performance through purposeful 1LMX investments and strategic partnerships, such as our partnership with Red 6. Our goal is to ensure that with the TF-50, pilots have the right tools to enable faster, more efficient training for 4th and 5th generation fighter missions and beyond.

Preparing Today's Aviators for the Threats of Tomorrow

With its extensive track record of performance and capability for future growth, the TF-50 stands ready to prepare today's aviators for tomorrow’s challenges. Learn more about the platform and how it addresses U.S. Navy training needs from Lockheed Martin test pilot and former naval aviator, Tony “Brick” Wilson.

Fast Facts

With outstanding mission performance, 21st Century Security advancements and a production-ready roadmap, Lockheed Martin is proud to offer the TF-50 as an effective, low-risk, scalable solution that is ready to meet multiple advanced training needs around the world.

  • The T-50 program was originally developed by KAI in partnership with Lockheed Martin and features engineering and design elements from the F-16 and F-35. It took its maiden flight in 2005.
  • The T-50 platform is currently on order/operated by seven countries, including the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Iraq, Thailand, Poland and Malaysia.
  • More than 250 T/FA-50 aircraft are currently on order/operating across a number of aerobatic and combat variants including the T-50B, TA-50 and FA-50.
  • The T-50’s aircraft availability rate is holding strong at 90% across 300,000 flight hours – an outstanding result that demonstrates our focus.
  • More than 2,500 students have been trained and more than 3,750 test flights have been conducted in the T-50 platform.
  • The active production line in South Korea is supported by an extended global supplier network and conducts full value stream production. A Final Assembly and Check-Out (FACO) facility can be quickly activated when and where needed.

Sustainment support for the TF-50 includes enhanced reliability as well as diagnostics and technology to minimize unscheduled maintenance. It also includes predictive health monitoring, a high-velocity supply chain and a condition-based approach to maintenance. All of this provides better insight into supply and maintenance requirements, improving overall readiness and fleet availability.
