Introducing the TF-50

The TF-50 is a light fighter variant of the proven T-50 trainer platform. It has modern capabilities to meet multiple missions and get new pilots flying operational sorties faster. We are proud to continue partnering with Korea Aerospace Industries to train the next generation of fighter pilots. We have made significant advances in digital engineering and open architectures that are accelerating development, production, upgrades and responsiveness, enabling affordable solutions to air forces around the globe.

Fast Facts

As the creators and builders of 5th Generation aircraft, we at Lockheed Martin - along with our partners at Korea Aerospace Industries - bring the experience and leadership needed to support the next generation of fighter pilots.

  • The T-50 program was originally developed by KAI in partnership with Lockheed Martin and features engineering and design elements from the F-16 and F-35. It took its maiden flight in 2005.
  • The T-50 platform is currently on order/operated by seven countries, including the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Iraq, Thailand, Poland and Malaysia.
  • More than 200 T-50 aircraft have been produced with an additional nearly 100 on order across a number of aerobatic and combat variants, including the T-50A, T-50B, TA-50 and FA-50.
  • Once ready for Final Assembly & Check-Out, components can be shipped to a single location and produced with minimal space and maximum ease.
  • With the T-50, the mission capable rate is holding strong at 90% across 300,000 flight hours – an outstanding result that demonstrates our focus.
  • More than 2,500 students have been trained and more than 3,750 test flights have been conducted in the T-50 platform.
  • The program ensures a seamless transition into 4th and 5th generation fighters and has even reduced required flight training hours by 85% for F-16 unit training.


Sustainment support for the TF-50 includes enhanced reliability as well as diagnostics and technology to minimize unscheduled maintenance. It also includes predictive health monitoring, a high-velocity supply chain and a condition-based approach to maintenance. All of this provides better insight into supply and maintenance requirements, improving overall readiness and fleet availability.
