Technology is transforming how humans and machines work together.
By pioneering the next generation of human‑machine teaming, Lockheed Martin is reshaping the collaboration of autonomous systems.
We are at the forefront of Autonomy with a mission‑centric evolution that moves beyond simple “self‑fly” or “self‑drive” concepts to systems that can plan, execute, and adapt complex operations once they arrive on station. By tightly integrating platforms, modular payload bays and open command‑and‑control interfaces, the autonomous systems work together across land, air, sea, space and cyber domains.
This unified approach accelerates decision cycles, expands payload flexibility, and ensures safe, predictable performance, even when the unexpected emerges, so customers can achieve their objectives at speed and scale. By leveraging strategic investments and commercial collaborations, Lockheed Martin delivers autonomous capabilities for the U.S. military and allies.
Autonomous Wingmen in Action
Watch Skunk Works® demonstrate human‑machine teaming with University of Iowa’s Operator Performance Lab. In a live‑flight test, a quarterback aircraft commanded two surrogate combat collaborative aircraft (CCA) from a tablet‑based interface. The autonomous wingmen launched, ran combat air patrol, engaged virtual threats and returned to base — all under autonomous control. The data collected during these tests is a step closer to reliable, multi‑vehicle autonomy that can safely operate alongside piloted systems. This milestone showcases how autonomous solutions can cut pilot workload, ultimately benefitting the warfighter.
Enabled by Advances in Autonomous Technologies
Lockheed Martin’s unmanned technologies enable our systems to go farther, operate longer and succeed in harsh or dangerous conditions. Within these systems are elements that make them smart – and ultimately help users make intelligent decisions.
