Name: Michael

Years at Lockheed Martin: 7 years

What is your current position: Design Engineer

What are your day-to-day responsibilities:
I am responsible for firmware design and architecture, system-level integration of firmware and hardware design and troubleshooting. I’m also the division’s Engineers Week lead in Orlando.

Can you tell us about your experience with Engineers Week:
Growing up with a father who was an electrical engineer, I was always inspired by the projects he worked on and loved the opportunities I had to troubleshoot issues with him when things would break around the house. It was this powerful influence in my life that formed my desire to help promote science, technologies, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) within my community. Since starting at Lockheed Martin, I have had the opportunity to participate in Engineers Week (E-Week) supporting various events such as elementary school field day and mentoring high school students in robotics design to prepare for an E-Week competition. Over the past years, I have gone from volunteering to leading all E-Week events at my Lockheed Martin Division in Orlando, Florida. STEM outreach is important to me because not everyone has that same level of influence I had with my father. Spreading awareness to all ages and genders through our Girl Scout events, middle school visits, high school gameshow, and other activities gives me and all the other volunteers an opportunity to make a positive impact within the community and build the future in STEM for years to come.
