About Javelin
- Developed and produced by the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, Javelin ® is a versatile, one-man-portable and multi-purpose weapon system that provides the capability to defeat a broad spectrum of threats under all conditions.
- Javelin offers more than 20 years of proven performance, which includes combat operations in multiple theaters with more than 5,000 firings before the Ukraine conflict started.
- Javelin employs fire-and-forget missile guidance technology over its entire engagement capability envelope of 65 meters to 4 kilometers in most operating conditions, affording the highest level of survivability to the user.
- Javelin’s current production rate is 3,000 per year. We are working with our U.S. Army customer to increase production capacity to 3,960 Javelins per year by employing new tooling and test equipment, ramping up production and partnering with our already active supply chain. The ramp-up to 3,960 per year is expected to be reached by late 2026.
- A key component to ensuring a successful Javelin ramp has been preparing its robust supplier network for the impending increase in missile production. The production line at Troy is currently at a 3,000 per year Javelin production capacity, and the supply chain that fuels the factories is on a parallel climb.
- A key milestone in this effort was the Javelin supply base completing their non-recurring engineering (NRE) efforts, which included additional tooling, test sets and floor space in some cases which creates a solid foundation for the full production ramp moving forward.
- Each supplier spent eight to 10 months completing the required updates to achieve the overall production ramp output starting later this year.
- On September 3, the U.S. Army awarded the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) a follow-on fiscal year 2025 production contract for Javelin® missiles and associated equipment and services with a total value not to exceed $900.5 million. In addition, Brazil and Tunisia are included in the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) as a part of this contract, a pivotal JJV milestone as they are the first Southern American and North African Javelin users, respectively.
- With the addition of Brazil and Tunisia, the Javelin weapon system is currently being used on all continents across the globe, except for Antarctica.
- On September 6, 2023, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), a partnership between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the production of the Javelin anti-tank weapon system in Poland. The JJV-PGZ MOU agreement further strengthens Poland’s relationship with both Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
