Lockheed Martin was recently awarded a contract worth ~$20 million to upgrade six Brazilian Air Force B34 (TPS-77) radar systems, used for air surveillance and air traffic management.  This program will be implemented in Brazil through the transfer of technology to Lockheed Martin’s Brazilian partner, Atmos, and builds upon a previous award for radar maintenance.

The B-34 modernization effort will install state-of-the-art technology being delivered in Lockheed Martin’s TPS-77 production radars with U.S. Government configurations in order to extend the radar service life. These upgrades are available and made affordable through Lockheed Martin’s continuous investment in its TPS-77 product, which ensures customers can take advantage of the most current technologies.

“We look forward to continuing our support for our International partners in Brazil and building our portfolio throughout South America,” said Rick Herodes, Director for Ground Based Radar Surveillance Systems at Lockheed Martin’s Mission Systems & Training business. “Our goal is to continue to ensure our customers can maintain their systems, extend service life and expand radar performance as their missions change.”

Lockheed Martin has produced and maintains more than 175 long-range radars, all of which are operational around the world detecting targets at ranges up to 250 miles, 24-hours-a-day.  These radars are capable of operating completely unmanned and many have performed for years in remote, inhospitable areas and in a wide range of operational environments.  No radar has ever been taken out of service and systems continue to operate well beyond their original 20-year service lives (many planned to operate for more than 40 years).  This longevity is a direct result of continuous Lockheed Martin investment in state-of-the-art technology and dedication to customer success.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 113,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation’s net sales for 2013 were $45.4 billion.
